Sustainable Mahogany Industries Ltd. in Fiji (the first company granted a license to use the Fiji Pure Mahogany brand) is expecting the delivery of an SCM Routech R400 for the processing of pure mahogany in the production of the bodies and necks of Gibson Guitars.

Currently, Fiji has committed to sales of the sustainable volumes of grades 1 and 2 mahogany to Sustainable Mahogany Industries Ltd. And everything will be done in full respect for the environment, guaranteed by the brand “Pure Fiji Mahogany” launched by Mr. John Wagner (Owner of Sustainable Mahogany Industries Ltd.) on April 30 to protect the quality of mahogany.

The Mahogany plantations in Fiji are a unique natural resource. First planted by the British immediately after World War 2, the seeds were brought from Belize and are true Swietenia macrophylla. There are now over 40,000 hectares of plantations, and nearly half of the plantations are mature. Furthermore, no logs will be sold overseas and all initial processing must be done in Fiji for the mutual benefit to the Fijian people and their culture.
All the plantations lands are owned by local clans of the Fijian people, and those clans are extensively involved in the forest maintenance, as well as harvesting and processing of the material. And the government has declared the forests a national resource, and has committed itself to seeing that the plantations are used for the greatest good for all Fijians.
